Ah Counter

Description

The Ah counter rings a bell each time anyone at anytime during the meeting uses “filler” words such as “ah”, “um”, “you know”, “so”. The sound of the bell brings to the conscious mind the unconscious habit. This is a much more difficult job than it seems and requires focused listening. It is easy to get wrapped up in what a speaker is saying and not pay attention to their “fillers”.

Responsibilities prior to meeting

None.

Responsibilities during meeting

When called upon by the TM, stand and explain your job to the members.

Listen carefully during the meeting. Ring the bell anytime anyone uses a filler word. Keep a tally. Use it in your report to members.

Special notes

Icebreaker speeches are exempt from bell ringing!

Ring the bell so everyone can hear it. You are not being obnoxious or disrespecting the speaker by doing this. If you feel that you cannot ring the bell, ask the VP of Education to not schedule you for this job.
