General Evaluator
Description
The GE conducts the all important evaluation portion of the meeting where each speech is critiqued by another club member. Since there are generally 3 speeches, there will be 3 evaluators giving 2 – 3 minute evaluations. At the conclusion of the speech evaluations, the GE evaluates the entire meeting taking into account what went right, what went wrong and how the Club might improve.
Responsibilities prior to meeting
Check the schedule to identify who is scheduled to be evaluators. Contact the evaluators to verify that they will be attending the meeting. If necessary, make changes in evaluator assignments and report those changes to the Toastmaster. Be sure to let the Toastmaster know that you have confirmed your evaluation team.
Responsibilities during meeting
Keep keenly attuned to what goes on at the meeting. Notice how the meeting progresses and how it achieves its goals. Notice areas of helpfulness, smoothness, high points, low points, time, interactions and meeting procedure Notice areas of confusion, awkwardness, miscommunication and how the Club might improve. Make notes on all the good and bad that you observe.
Keep on the lookout for a member who has done something special at the meeting whom you wish to recognize with the Golden Oscar Award.
When called on by the TM, come to the front of the room, shake the TM’s hand and begin your evaluation portion of the meeting. You can start with a brief introduction and then introduce your evaluators.
Introduce each evaluator and the speech that they are evaluating.
After all the speech evaluations have been performed, give your evaluation of the entire meeting.
After your meeting evaluation, award the Golden Oscar to a member who in your view particularly stood out.
