Speaker

Description

The Speaker is one of the centerpiece roles of the club meeting and it is through giving speeches that a club member improves their speech giving ability.

Responsibilities prior to meeting

Prepare an introduction for the Toastmaster. Include the speech title, the manual you are speaking from, speech number and speech objectives. Also include any special notes the audience needs to know about such as you are not to make eye contact, you are to read your speech etc. Also include something about yourself and the topic that answers for the audience “Why this speaker?”, “Why this topic?”, “Why now?” Your introduction is very important to your speech as it will inform the audience about credentials and purpose in speaking to them.

Find out who your evaluator is and give him/her your manual, so he/she can prepare the evaluation. You can also mention any other goals you are trying to achieve, such as “I’m trying to stop pacing back and forth. Would you take special note of that for me?”.

At the end of the meeting, give your manual to the VP of Education so he/she can sign off on your completed speech.
